How healthy is your veggie burger?
“There’s nothing wrong with eating a hamburger on occasion. But meatless or “veggie” burgers are a healthful alternative‑-and many taste much better than they used to. Though they vary in what goes into them (soy, wheat gluten, black beans, brown rice, rolled oats, mushrooms, carrots, sunflower seeds, eggs, etc.), most have fewer calories than meat burgers and little or no saturated fat or cholesterol. Many contain soy‑-and soy protein helps lower blood cholesterol. Others contain enough veggies to make a dent in your five-a-day goal. All provide fiber (meat burgers contain none). On the downside, packaged burgers tend to be moderately high in sodium, like other processed foods.” Link.
